Gorion and the players headed out from Candlekeep around midday, still without giving any clue as to the reason or nature of their travels except to say that they could find help with some friends at the Friendly Arm Inn. The group kept largely keeping to the road to avoid entanglements with the wildlife and worse that occupied the area. A mere four hours into their journey, however, they were beset by much worse than wolves.
A large armored figure and more than a dozen thugs appeared from seemingly everywhere. The leader offered Gorion the chance to escape with his life by walking away and leaving the four behind. Naturally, Gorion refused to put his children in such obvious danger and instead cast a Haste spell on the party and fought off the attackers while the rest fled.
A powerful mage in his own right, against so many Gorion was really only buying time for his four young wards. Despite his magic, he was cut down and the players were left to fend for themselves in the woods. Anwyn was able to determine the direction to the Friendly Arm and the group set out parallel to the road towards possible help.
